Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco (born Angela Maria Ani DiFranco) is an American and Canadian musician and singer. There are more than 20 albums that have been released by her. DiFranco categorizes her music under the terms folk-rock and alternative. But it contains influences such as hip-hop, punk and jazz. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy recipient Ani DiFranco is considered to be the father of the DIY movement and is among the first musicians to launch her own label the year 1990. DiFranco was born on the 23rd of September 1970 in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who was introduced to Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was Italian descent and her mother came born in Montreal. Ani's song, 32 Flavors, was composed by her, and performed by Ani. The track was first released on her 1995 sixth album Not a Pretty Girl. The song was featured in the soundtrack of the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it was revealed that she planned to host an event for three days at the Louisiana slave plantation. The workshop was cancelled, however many (including this piece) did not show any remorse. DiFranco issued a further apology days later. While she is known for her role as Little Peoplesinger, she has worked with many musicians and artists, from Pete Seeger through Chuck D up to Prince. The singer lives in New Orleans. Ani was born Kristen Ford. When she was 14, she started to write her own music. The songs she performed at coffee houses and bars in her teens. DiFranco graduated from the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school at 16, and enrolled in courses at Buffalo State College.
